A Gala Christmas in Vienna
This Christmas concert, the fifth in the series started by Placido Domingo several years ago, features Miss Sarah, Helmut Lotti and Riccardo Cocciante. They are beautifuly backed by the Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen chorus. It was recorded live at the Rathus, in Vienna, Austria on December 21st, 1997.
In the past, M. Domingo had done these holidays specials with stars as diverse as Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Charles Aznavour, Michael Bolton and José Carreras.
Far from the usual holiday fare with the sing-along songs, this concert features music by The Bee Gees, John Lennon, Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull and Roger Whittaker amongst others. And sung in 5 different languages so again, this is hardly the usual "Jingle Bell" type of Christmas special.
It is also traditional holiday fare for many PBS stations in America during Pledge Week. It has been shown for several years now and it is still quite popular. And as you may have noticed in the album section, there is also a companion music cd available from SONY CLASSICAL.
