Grandpa
This animated version of the John Burningham children's book tells the story of a young girl, Emily, and her grandfather who is never too busy to play with her.
Their imagination transports them to a Victorian-era ball, where they dance the night away. They also go on a picnic in which a parade of stuffed animals come to life. Exotic it gets when they go on a jungle safari. And what of the fishing expedition where they are at the mercy of a high octane whale ?
As you can imagine, this story deals with the death of a parent and how it is perceived by the children left behind. In the book, the grandfather slowly looses this spark of life that makes the adventures so memorable and finaly he passes away...
Miss Sarah performs a very touching song called "Make Believe" for this story. Beautifuly accompanied by a 40-piece orchestra and a middle school choir, the music and the narration by Sir Peter Ustinov make this story special indeed.
GRANDPA was made by the same people who have done the Academy Award nominated short film THE SNOWMAN. The video version of GRANDPA was released in 1992 by Sony Music Entertainment. As you might have noticed in the ALBUM section, a full-lengh record of the soundtrack was also released and so was a deluxe version of the album with a copy of the book inside the album sleeve.
