One Night in Eden: Live In Concert
Me and the penguins's favorite DVD. This is an amazing concert, filled with some of our favorite songs.
The set ressembles the EDEN album cover and although the orchestra is somewhat hidden behind a red curtain for most of the show, we do see them sometimes for certain numbers. It is always a pleasure to see Miss Sarah accompanied by a large orchestra.
She is also surrounded by several dancers who often introduce a musical number with some inventive choreography. CAPTAIN NEMO comes to mind, as does ANYTIME ANYWHERE.
And what of the music... We can never really suppress that little lump in our throats when Miss Sarah sings TIME TO SAY GOODBYE at the end.
And before she sings what has become one of her signature songs, we are treated to amazingly inventive numbers like CAPTAIN NEMO, LA MER, IL MIO CUORE VA, FIRST OF MAY, IN PARADISUM, EDEN and WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER. Just to name a few...
And for those of us who have never seen her do THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, Miss Sarah sings 3 numbers from it, LITTLE LOTTI, WISHING YOU WERE SOMEHOW HERE AGAIN and The Phantom song, MUSIC OF THE NIGHT.
And the concert ends, with Miss Sarah singing her signature song, a solo version of TIME TO SAY GOODBYE. For us, it is a moment that never fails to bring a tear to our eyes and a lump in our throats... The lights come up, the first few notes starts and the audience goes crazy...
As for the concert itself, it was filmed in South Africa, at the Super Bowl in Sun City. At the beginning of the DVD, Miss Sarah is seen taking the sites of this beautiful countryside. And the penguins get jealous when she and Frank play with the little lion cubs at the end. The penguins always go "we can eat her shoelaces too you know" when the credit rolls. Hence why I try to end the DVD right after the interview with Miss Sarah. But sometimes they hide the remote and then the whining starts.
I have spent many an evening watching this concert and I never get tired of playing it again and again.
I hope I never do...

The VHS version of the concert includes the same song list, minus the interview at the end. And that is a shame, because listening to Miss Sarah talk is such a pleasure...
