The album ENCORE...
This is another one of those Andrew Lloyd Webber albums of songs that Miss Sarah did for him eons ago. They always seem to have the same track listing and magically appear whenever Miss Sarah has a new album out. This one was released by THE REALLY USEFUL GROUP LTD. in 2001, to coincide with the other "BEST OF..." album by Miss Sarah, CLASSICS
There are only 4 new songs on this album that have not been released before. Only WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND from the Webber's musical of the same name seems to be worth it. Miss Sarah had performed this song in her Royal Albert Hall concert years ago, sitting on the piano while Andrew Lloyd Webber played it. The musical had not yet opened and this was wonderful publicity. It is after all a very nice song.
The rest of the albums consists of material from THE SONGS THAT GOT AWAY and SURRENDER. Even the "new" songs were leftover material originally recorded for THE SONGS THAT GOT AWAY wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in 1989. It seems that several songs were recorded for that project and a selection of the best cuts was made for it. More leftovers...
I, for one, can only hope that Andrew Lloyd Webber will stop releasing those albums or, if there are any original songs left in his closet, worth listening to, that he will release them and move on. It is annoying, not to mention pricey, to buy an album for just one or two new songs. Granted, the packaging is one of the prettiest albums of Miss Sarah around (the pengies thinks she looks great with the veil) but still. Paying $20 for 4 new songs is a lot. I also know people who are not really big fans as we are who buy those albums only to discover when they get home, hey, I have them already !!! Not a great way to make new fans.
Ok, I am done complaining.
