The album FLY...
This album was released in 1995 by EastWeast Records.
However, following the huge success of the song TIME TO SAY GOODBYE in Germany by Miss Sarah and Andrea Bocelli, it was re-released in 1997 and that song was added to the album.
Now, lemme remember back to the day I bought my copy of FLY...
I was heading to my friend James's for lunch that day. On the way there, I stopped, on a whim, at the HMV on Sparks Street here in Ottawa. This particular store has the best selection of classical CDs in town. You can even find the rare (and read VERY expensive) imports sometimes if you were lucky.
Well, despite me stoping there at least once a week since the LA LUNA show the previous October, I had NEVER EVER seen the album FLY for sale there... So I was not expecting much when I started browsing...
A minute later, you could see the puddle on the floor and 2 minimum-wage HMV employees jamming my fingers in a wall outlet to revive me... THEY HAD IT !!! THEY HAD A COPY OF FLY !!! Never mind what I had to promise the devil (i.e. the cashier) to pay for it, it was worth it... Poor, oh so very poor, I headed over to James's in a daze...
I had been looking for a Miss Sarah CD with the song A QUESTION OF HONOUR ever since I had seen the show. I thought at first that this was a song from a forthcoming album but after doing some research on the web, I found out it was from an out-of-print album called FLY. I say out-of-print as the original version was, but a new pressing with TIME TO SAY GOODBYE added to it had been made since then, as I mentionned above.
A QUESTION OF HONOUR had been the highlight of the concert for me. Having never heard it, I thought Miss Sarah was singing LA WALLY when she took to the air and floored me with that awesome song... I think if I shake what little hair I have left hard enough (if you read my scanning experience with the EDEN booklet cover in the WEB BUILDING 101 section, you know how quickly that's over) some silver tickertapes can still tumble to the ground.
I could not wait to rush home that night to listen to it, but low and behold, THE DISC SKIPPED !!! After I came too again, I took the CD, cleaned it, held my breath and phfew, it worked. And I was not disapointed. The penguins and I were bopping and going IF YOU WINNN OR YOU LOOOSEEEE, IT'S A QUESTION OF HONOURRR for hours...
The poor penguins thought Miss Sarah would fall when she went up in the air the first time they watched the concert DVD, but they have seen it often enough now to know that she is safe and still making beautiful music...
The rest of the album was also quite the revelation. Beside TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, there were duets with Chris Thompson and of all people, Tom Jones !!! It was great to see (or hear) Miss Sarah in top form, trying out other types of music. Of course, we have favorites, with YOU TAKE MY BREATH AWAY being one, HOW CAN HEAVEN LOVE ME, HEAVEN IS HERE and both versions of FLY being others... A great album !!!
I am just left wondering why though this album was not released anywhere else in the world but Germany.
I am sure some people would also promise the devil lots to be able to own a copy...
