The album SURRENDER: THE UNEXPECTED SONGS...
This album was the first musical collaboration between Miss Sarah and Andrew Lloyd Webber following their divorce. It was released in 1995 by The Really Useful Group, Andrew Lloyd Webber's record company.
The 17 tracks on this album are all songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, from JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR to SUNSET BOULEVARD. In the album's booklet, he mentions that he and Miss Sarah have developped this album over a 3-year period. He says he wanted to record new versions of his most popular songs and redo the ones that had not been done to his satisfaction before.
And acknowledging their separation, he also mentions his "high regard for her talent as a singer..."
This is another one of the many "BEST OF..." albums that features Miss Sarah doing the songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber. And there are tons of those it seems... Aside from SURRENDER, you have the almost-identical SARAH BRIGHTMAN SINGS THE MUSIC OF ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, then THE ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER COLLECTION and then ENCORE.
Yes, you may yawn at the sound of the beep.
All with nearly the same songs and almost always using the same recordings, some of them now more than 10 years old. Like a looney relative, those songs get taken out every other year or so, then release under a new album name.
All this reminds me of leftover Christmas turkey, served up in a hundred different ways before it's all gone.
There... I am getting down from my soapbox now. I have said my piece. I will say this though, if you want to get one "BEST OF..." album with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Miss Sarah singing, this is the one to get.
Oh, the red cover picture scares the penguins. They like Miss Sarah floating on soft white clouds better... They do like the little red dancing ballerina in the booklet though.
Oh, and they'd like to know why there are songs called GUS: THE THEATRE CAT and MACAVITY: THE MYSTERY CAT but no songs about penguins...
Anyone wanna take this one up ??? I have run out of patience and/or answers on that one. If I hear them say "yes, but why ?" one more time, some of them little critter tushes are gonna get spanked...
