The album THE TREES THEY GROW SO HIGH...
This is Miss Sarah's first solo recording and it was released by EMI Records in 1988.
And it is quite a different kind of album from what was to come later on and of the STARSHIP TROOPERS of days gone by. There are no large orchestras here or complex musical arrangements. Just her singing and Geoffrey Parsons at the piano.
The 19 tracks from this album are all traditional folks songs, and Miss Sarah's voice lends itself well to this type of music. Me and the penguins do enjoy COME YE NOT FROM NEWCASTLE a lot. They sometimes fall asleep to OLIVER CROMWELL, which is a nursery rhyme from the region of Suffolk, in England.
And several songs are in French on this album and that always gets them going... They just start swooning and purring, takes me hours to calm them down.
The album cover that I have used here is from the first rerelease of the CD in the mid 90ies. Another album cover (without any pictures of Miss Sarah) was chosen in 1998 for the second release of the album in Europe, where it is also known as EARLY ONE MORNING. You can view the other covers by clicking on the "behind-the-scene information" link in the right column.
We have the original album, and the cover has the picture of Miss Sarah that you can see in the upper right corner of the image above... When I go away for the weekend, I can be sure that the morning I leave, I will find the CD box on the kitchen table... Attached, is a note from the penguins asking if Miss Sarah can come and look after them... They say she looks like a young penguin babysitter... Ever so young and sweet...
So, once again, I sit them down and tell them that Miss Sarah can't come and babysit them because she has to record some new CDs so that we can all be happy... That is usually followed by a very loud WOO HOO from them...
Anyoooo, for those of us who enjoy traditional folk music, it is a nice album to have...
Oh, one last thing... Some of the sound clips from this album are not very loud. The album, I fear, was recorded at a very low level and therefore, you might have to turn your speakers up a tad to hear some of the music... I do apologize for the inconvenience...
As always, just click on the red arrow beside a song title for its lyrics and a short musical clip in RealAudio format.x
