The album TIME TO SAY GOODBYE...
The album TIME TO SAY GOODBYE (1997 Angel Records) does not really need an introduction anymore...
It features, of course, the immensely popular title track by Miss Sarah and Andrea Bocceli. This particular song has a very interesting history, so be sure to read the behind-the-scene section. The cd single of the song made the Guinness Book Of World Records, as Germany’s best selling single of all time in 1998. It sold in excess of 5 million copies !!! In May of this year (2003), that honour went one better when it was awarded the "Best Selling Single of All Time" in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, according to Media Control, the official music chart authority for those countries.
The song has a special meaning for me now. In early March of this year (2003), my friend David took his own life. I was deeply touched when his family asked if I could lend them my cd with TIME TO SAY GOODBYE on it for the funeral mass. David had often kidded me in the past about my love of Miss Sarah and her music but his mother told me after the funeral how much he loved that song. As Miss Sarah says in the A NIGHT IN EDEN dvd, she doesn't know of anyone who doesn't like the song and she is right. It has touched many people's lives and when she sang it at the LA LUNA concert here in Ottawa, I started to cry...
We miss you David, and we all hope that wherever you are now, you have found the peace you were missing here with us...
Miss Sarah proves once again how diverse her taste in music can be. From a version of Gipsy Kings's TU QUIERES VOLVER to a cover of Queen's WHO WANTS TO LIVE FOREVER to the operatic O MIO BABBINO CARO, better known now as the famous song from the film A ROOM WITH A VIEW, Miss Sarah and the London Symphony Orchestra have given us another great album.
In addition to TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, the album also has 2 duets by Miss Sarah and José Cura. One of the song, THERE FOR ME, is one Miss Sarah has done on her recent LA LUNA tour, with Josh Groban. It is a very beautiful song and the penguins just burst into tears every time they hear it. Of course, it's open-the-flood-gate time when Miss Sarah sings TIME TO SAY GOODBYE too...
Such emotional critters... I wonder who they get that from...
And the album ends on a spiritual note, with the song ALLELUJA. I often wonder if Miss Sarah will ever record an album of religious songs. She has done AVE MARIA for CLASSICS and I think it would be great to hear her sing more of those songs. Where is my wishing well ? Anyone has a quarter ?
Maybe 2... I would like some hair on my head again...
